Just when you thought the luxury camera brand Leica couldn’t get any cooler, the German powerhouse has unveiled an exclusive, limited edition Safari series perfect for the adventurer; the traveller; or purely just the camera aficionado.
The Leica M10-P Safari edition body is beautifully coupled with the matching Summicron-M 50mm f2 Safari lens – a first for the Leica brand – and is set to wow professionals and enthusiasts alike with its sleek design and minimal finishings; characteristics that are synonymous of the Leica brand.
History
It’s interesting to note that the first Leica cameras to have this unusual, special finish to its body – with its high-quality stove enamel finish in olive green – was originally designed and constructed for use in the field.
Leica’s reputation as robust and reliable tools under extreme conditions spread rapidly around the world, with the 1960’s seeing the introduction to the Leica M1 ‘Olive’ – which was manufactured for the German armed forces – the special model went on to become one of the brand’s biggest successes.
The olive-green cameras are enormously popular among Leica collectors and enthusiasts.
The setup
Leica cameras have long been associated with luxury, offering products of photographer’s dreams. The Safari series is no different.
As aforementioned, the Safari edition features an eye-catching olive-green enamel finish and unique accessories supplied with the camera; such as a carrying strap and a case for SD memory cards and credit cards, both crafted from Brandy-coloured, genuine full grain cowhide.
It’s details like this that underline the unique aesthetics of this special edition camera, which is limited to 1,500 examples of the camera.
The matching Leica Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 Edition ‘Safari’ premium lens will be offered separately, but it’s evident that, together with the camera, the Safari edition creates the perfect symbiosis of functionality and design.
All visible metal components of the Leica M10-P Edition ‘Safari’ and the Leica Summicron-M1:2/50 Edition ‘Safari’ premium lens are elaborately machined from solid brass. The premium stove enamel finish in olive green makes the camera and lens resistant to finger marks and scratches and provides enduring protection against external influences such as solvents, chemicals and UV light.
